I've written up a "news" item about the VRWG award and the GOES money and sent it off to all the local papers in the area. I would say this counts as "serious" writing effort and if published in any of them would add to my writing cv.
I'll post how it goes but if anyone does see the article in any of the papers please post a comment here.
